Carlos Derraik

Carlos Derraik has extensive experience in diverse legal areas in Brazil and abroad, including greenfield and brownfield projects, energy, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, real estate acquisitions, privatizations, and competition issues. Provides consultancy to companies, joint ventures, and consortia regarding corporate structuring, financing, loan operations with guarantees, and real estate.

He is also active in energy projects, from generation (thermal, hydraulic, and wind), through the transmission to distribution, and infrastructure, focusing on the relationships between construction companies and project owners, especially in contracts called EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction).

He acted as counsel for clients as creditors on several bankruptcy procedures and helped clients structuring whether or not filing for bankruptcy and preparation for the filing of bankruptcy procedures.



  • Postgraduate degree in Finance from Coppe at UFRJ.
  • Graduated in Law from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro.

  • Participated as a speaker in seminars and symposiums in the energy area.

  • Member of the Special Electric Energy Commission of the OAB of Rio de Janeiro.


  • Represented a partner on the acquisition of one of the largest global concert and music marketing companies.
  • Advised the development and sale of a wind farm in the State of Ceará with a capacity of 1,200 MW.
  • Represented a North American energy company in developing a thermo-electric plant in the State of Rio de Janeiro, with an installed capacity of 900MW.
  • Represented a foreign company in the acquisition and restructuring of a Brazilian company worth more than US$500 million.
  • Represented a foreign airline company to implement their business in Brazil and establish its routes from Brazil to abroad and in the merger with another airline.
